PSHE

Our PSHE vision

Our vision for Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) at Willow Bank Infant School is to equip children with essential life skills and to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes children need to protect and enhance their well being. PSHE lessons encourage our pupils to have respect for others and others’ opinions and promote pupil’s own self-esteem. It teaches pupils how to stay safe and healthy, build and maintain successful relationships and how to participate in the wider community.

Our PSHE Intent

The intention of our PSHE scheme is to help children understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world. There is a strong emphasis on building emotional literacy, resilience and nurturing mental and physical health.

Our PSHE Implementation

At Willow Bank Infant School we follow the Jigsaw scheme which offers a mindful approach to teaching PSHE. Jigsaw lessons cover all the statutory requirements for Relationships, Health Education and Sex Education.

The scheme is organised into ‘puzzle pieces’. Every year group studies the same Puzzle at the same time. Jigsaw ensures that learning from previous years is revisited and extended, adding new concepts, knowledge and skills, year on year as appropriate.

Each year group is taught one lesson per week and all lessons are delivered in an age-and stage- appropriate way so that they meet children’s needs.

Our PSHE Impact

After the implementation of our PSHE scheme pupils should leave Willow Bank Infant School with relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.
